Here are four simple steps to make your own blue and green Lava lamps.
1.Gather Materials:
A clear glass container (such as a vase or Jar),
This process calls for water, vegetable oil, food coloring such as green and blue coloring as well as Alka Seltzer or another Effervescent tablets, and possibly glitter.
Fill Your Container
In a glass jar add vegetable oil until about three-quarters full and leave some room at the top.
Within another container, mix water with green and blue food coloring until you get the desired hues. Begin by adding a few drops and gradually increase or decrease them as necessary.
Slowly pour the colored water into a glass bottle that is filled with oil. As it falls to the lower part of the container it will be mixed with the oil and produce a separation effect.
Add Effervescent Tablets
To add effervescent tablets of Alka-Seltzer break them into smaller pieces, then drop them into oil. Be sure to watch them fall to the bottom.
Relax and enjoy the show:
Sit back and watch as colored bubbles move across the oil’s surface, creating captivating patterns similar to that seen in lamp lava.
To display a longer time, more Alka-Seltzer tablets may be added if desired to keep the speed of reaction and ensure that reactions are on track.
To get your desired result, experiment using different combinations of food colors and alter the amount of Alka Seltzer tablet in line with the desired effect.
Take care when handling tablets of Alka Seltzer and try to avoid inhaling their fumes in the open air or accidentally ingestion them.
Also, make sure that your container is stable so it doesn’t fall over easily and then enjoy creating your very unique green and blue lava lamp!
